Advantage of Rigid PVC Sheet
Water Resistance
Rigid PVC Sheet has solid resistance to water due to its composition. When it comes in contact with water, it does not swell or lose its composition. This makes it fit for all types of weather.
Corrosion Resistance
When brought in contact with chemicals, PVC doesn't react. This keeps its state intact and saves it from any kind of deformation.
Fire Resistance
Rigid PVC Sheet can be used anywhere as they are fire resistant. There is no effect of acid, heat or light on it.
High Strength & Durability
Due to the structure of its component molecules, Rigid PVC Sheet are highly strong which ensures that they don't undergo any deformation. The boards can survive for as long as 4 decades without any damage.
Easily Shaped and Painted
PVC can be given any shape to suit your requirements. It can be cut for the furniture of your house or can be made into wall panels for exterior use. Also, it can be painted with any type of paint which lasts for years and gives the look and feel as if it is new!
Pocket-Friendly
They are a good substitute for wood or aluminium and they come in a variety of price range. They don't require any extra maintenance and stay in the same state for quite a long time. No special equipment is required to cut or drill them and this makes them pocket-friendly to use.
Application of Rigid PVC Sheet

Vinyl Floor
Vinyl floor tiles are popular solution because of the wide design choices and easy maintenance. PVC tiles are laminate production with a thin outer layer of PVC film to protect from the scratch, and a middle layer for printing.

Decorative Skin
With printing technologies, PVC decorative sheets are available in various design from wood, marble grain and leather styles. They could be outer layer of cabinets, tables, speakers adding great styles to the furniture.

Wallpaper
PVC wooden print tiles are one of the popular PVC applications in construction. Apart from the great imitation of wood texture, PVC floor is durable and easy for floor installation.

Frosted Window Film
Adding adhesive on the back, thin PVC film could directly stick on the glass surface. PVC film can also be printed in design and utilized as great promotion signs in stores and public facilities.
What Properties of Rigid PVC Sheet Should be Paid Attention?
High Flatness
All building boards, no matter what material they are made of, flatness is a very critical indicator of it. It is particularly important that the PVC foam board used as a cabinet has a good flatness. Poor production process of PVC foam board, as well as improper storage and shipping may affect its flatness and cause warping of the board.
Uniform Thickness
As an artificial plastic sheet, PVC foam board may have uneven thickness if it is not well controlled in production, which is embodied in:
● In the width direction of a PVC sheet, take multiple positions to measure the thickness, and the difference between the maximum value and the minimum value is large.
● Take different PVC sheets to measure the thickness, the difference between the maximum value and the minimum value is large.
● In either case, it will affect subsequent processing and cabinet manufacturing.
Strong Screw Holding Power
To assemble the cabinet, it is necessary to use screws to fasten it. Whether the screws are easy to tighten on the PVC foam board without slipping or brittle cracking is reflected in the screw-holding power of the board.
The higher the density of the PVC foam board, the better the screw holding power. The more polyvinyl chloride content of the PVC foam board, the better the screw holding power.
Hard and Scratch Resistant
By using different equipment, different processes, and different sources of raw materials, PVC foam boards with different characteristics will be produced. Some may be more suitable for printing, as advertising materials, such PVC foam boards usually have a relatively soft and matte surface. The PVC foam board used as a cabinet should be hard and scratch resistant.
Clean Surface, Free of Impurities, Pits and Dirt
If the workshop where PVC foam board is produced is not clean enough and the quality control management is ineffective, the surface of the board may have defects such as impurities, pits and dirt. If you are going to make PVC foam board directly into cabinets without other paint or lamination processing, it is very important to have a clean surface PVC foam board.
When does PVC Sheet Need to be Replaced?
Physical Damage
If the PVC sheets have sustained physical damage, such as cracks, breaks, or extensive scratches, it may compromise their structural integrity. Damaged sheets may not provide the necessary protection or functionality and should be replaced.
Chemical Exposure
PVC sheets are resistant to many chemicals, but exposure to certain aggressive chemicals or solvents over time may cause degradation. If the PVC sheets are used in environments with chemicals they are not designed to withstand, replacement may be necessary.
UV Exposure
Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause degradation of PVC material. If the sheets are used outdoors or in environments with high UV exposure and show signs of discoloration, brittleness, or other UV-related damage, replacement may be needed.
Temperature Extremes
PVC sheets can be sensitive to extreme temperatures. If they are used in environments where temperatures regularly exceed or fall below the recommended range, it could lead to material degradation. In such cases, replacement might be necessary.
Wear and Tear
Over time, normal wear and tear can affect the performance of PVC sheets. This can include loss of flexibility, reduced impact resistance, or other signs of aging. If the sheets are no longer meeting the requirements of their intended application, replacement should be considered.
Outdated or Obsolete Technology
If new and improved PVC sheet technologies or formulations become available, it might be worthwhile to consider replacing older sheets with the latest advancements to benefit from improved performance and durability.
How Can Rigid PVC Sheet be Checked for Quality?
PVC foam sheets are quality checked in various ways by various brands. However, the following are some common tests used to evaluate the performance of PVC foam sheets:
Fire Test
PVC foam sheets used in fire tests must have a class A flame spread rating. PVC froth sheets, when in touch with fire, self quenches.
Moisture Absorption Test
PVC foam sheets are soaked in water. The weight of the PVC foam sheet before it is submerged in water can be compared to that of post-submerging into the water to detect the rate at which it absorbs moisture. PVC should have a water absorption rate of less than 1%.
Strength Test
To see if the foam sheet can withstand direct impact and heavy weight, it is put through a series of strength testing activities.
Preparation of Materials
The process of preparing raw materials involves determining the main material (polyvinyl chloride) and auxiliary materials based on the production order, which is generated from a customer order. The quantities of each raw material, including stabilizers, foaming agents, foaming regulators, lubricants, and fillers, are calculated. For PVC foam boards with enhanced performance (e.g., UV-resistant, flame retardant grade A, or increased hardness), reinforcing agents are added. In the case of colored PVC foam boards, the preparation includes the use of color masterbatch.
Once all the required materials are confirmed, they are mixed in proportion. The specific formula proportions may vary due to different production equipment and the sources of raw and auxiliary materials. Achieving a perfect formula requires the expertise of skilled technicians and optimal production equipment running.
Foaming Process
Upon entering the production equipment, the raw material is heated to a high temperature and expands uniformly under the influence of various auxiliary materials. The foaming process of PVC foam boards consists of three stages: cell formation, cell expansion, and cell curing.
The quality and density of PVC foam boards are heavily influenced by the foam expansion process. Technicians must carefully control the foam expansion rate to prevent issues such as overexpansion, cell collapse, or coalescence of cells forming large bubbles. The adjustment process is crucial during the initial stages of production to avoid defects, as illustrated in the image of a PVC foam board failing to foam.
Before achieving stable production, a considerable amount of waste boards is generated, leading to material loss. This is why a minimum order quantity (MOQ) is set for PVC foam boards, with colored variants having a higher MOQ due to the additional color adjustment processes.
Extrusion and Cooling of PVC Foam Board
After extrusion of the melted raw material from the mouth die, technicians control the complete decomposition of the foaming agent from the mouth die to the shaping die. Stabilizers are used to ensure the stability of the decomposition process, allowing for continuous and stable production of PVC foam boards.
Good stability and shaping of the PVC foam board result in smaller dimensional deviations. Lubricants, both internal and external, aid in plasticization, fluidity of raw material melts, and control of sheet width and thickness. External lubricants improve surface finish during the extrusion process. The PVC foam board is then cooled and formed through four sets of shaping dies.
Covering with Protective Film and Cut to Length
After extrusion from the shaping dies, the edges of the PVC foam board are cut by a cutter fixed at both ends of the width. The board can be covered with a protective film based on customer preferences during this process.
